Economic Environment :

Government began an economic reform program in 1989 initially by lifting import quotas and opening some exports to the private sector. Subsequently, it has liberalised regulations to allow more foreign investment. :

Industries :

Tourism is the largest industry. Fishing is the second leading growth sector. Agriculture and manufacturing play a minor role, constrained by limited cultivable land and shortage of domestic labour. Garment production, boat building and handicrafts, accounts for 15% of GDP.

Minimal domestic and international facilities. Transport infrastructure is sorely lacking.
