Thailand Economy Overview

Flag of Thailand
Economic Environment : The Thai economy went into a deep recession in 1997/98 as a result of severe financial problems facing many Thai firms, particularly banks and finance companies. An economic turnaround requires rescheduling the large short-term foreign liabilities of Thai firms, restoring high rates of export growth to finance foreign liabilities, and extensively recapitalizing the banking system. :
Industries : Heavily agricultural, with rice the leading crop. World’s leading exporter of rice. Large exporter of teak. Industry is minor and centred chiefly in the processing of agricultural products. Tourism is the leading source of foreign exchange.
Infrastructure : Bangkok is a key point on round-the-world air routes and the only port that can accommodate ocean-going vessels. Railroads originate in Bangkok and extend to several neighbouring countries. Network of paved highways. Inland waterways still used to carry well over half the cargo moved in the central plain.
